Esters and glycol ethers
Solvents chosen by evaporation rate, solvency and how they behave in the blend — quoted against the specification you formulate to, not the product name alone.
- Grades
- Technical and low-water grades depending on the product and the formulation.
- Packing
- Drums and IBCs; ISO tanks where the volume justifies it.
- Transport
- Most solvent esters are flammable and are classed, packed and documented accordingly.
- Documents
- Certificate of analysis and safety data sheet in the language the destination requires.
What usually goes wrong
Two lots of the same ester behave differently in a blend if water content or acidity has drifted. A formulator who orders by product name gets whatever met the loosest commercial grade that week, and finds out at the mixer. On the plasticiser side, a substitution between a phthalate and a terephthalate is not a like-for-like swap and can carry a regulatory consequence in the destination market.
How we handle it
We quote against the specification you formulate to, including water and acidity limits where they matter, and we state the grade and origin on the line. Where you are considering a substitution we set out what actually differs rather than presenting it as equivalent.
Specification
CAS numbers are given so you can check the identity of the product against your own specification before ordering.
| Product | Abbreviation | CAS number | Principal uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ethyl acetate | EA | 141-78-6 | Coatings, printing inks, adhesives, lamination, cleaning |
| Butyl acetate | BA | 123-86-4 | Automotive and industrial coatings, nitrocellulose lacquers, leather finishing |
| Isopropyl acetate | IPAc | 108-21-4 | Inks and coatings, fast-evaporating cleaning solvent |
| Methyl acetate | MeAc | 79-20-9 | Lower-toxicity solvent for coatings, adhesives and cleaning |
| Butyl glycol | EGBE | 111-76-2 | Water-based coatings, hard-surface cleaners, coupling solvent |
| Butyl diglycol | DEGBE | 112-34-5 | Slow-evaporating coalescent for waterborne paints |
| Dioctyl terephthalate | DOTP | 6422-86-2 | Non-phthalate plasticiser for flexible PVC, cable and flooring |
| Diisononyl phthalate | DINP | 28553-12-0 | General-purpose plasticiser for PVC compounding |
